Food Distribution Volunteer Information 2018
We have an on-site ministry to complement the Free Medical Clinic, Meals on Wheels and AA. This ministry is called Impact Ministries Food Distribution. Every second Saturday of the month St. Paul’s hosts free food distribution in partnership with Feeding America and the Lowcountry Food Bank. During the hours of 9 to 11 am there is also an emergency clothing closet open to our clients.
What an exciting new ministry to impact our neighbors! Will you come and help us be Christ to others? Remembering the Great Call that includes providing food to those who hunger, we can do this intentionally now every month. Online signup not necessary but helpful. Come ready to work! There are many ways:
Pick up—Need a team of individuals with trucks or SUVs to pick up the food at 9 am from the Food Bank in N. Charleston and deliver it to Skardon Hall Friday before distribution. Also need folks to be available for special pick-ups on Saturday morning, as needed.
Set up—12-15 people needed – This is a great service in which to participate as a family. Report on Friday at 10 am. Set-up tables and chairs. Set out food from pantry on tables.
Registration Team – 4 to 6 people needed 8 am – 11 am. Welcome clients/ visitors and guide to registration. Help clients fill out forms and register on Charity tracker.
Shopping Cart walkers – 20 people needed. Day of event 8:30 – 11:30 am. Walk with clients/ visitors through the food distribution. Talk to and connect with the folks you meet. Be friendly and helpful…listen.
Food Handlers – 15 people needed. Day of event 8:30 – 11:30 am. Pass out food items to visitors. Welcome folks with a smile. Some light lifting.
Take Down – 10 - 12 people needed. Day of event 11 am to 12 pm. Take down tables and chairs and return to storage. Gather and store any remaining goods. Clean-up, throw out trash, some lifting.
